Outdoor furniture can be costly. One can protect their investment in these pieces by providing proper care and maintenance. This includes cleaning, storage, and replacing or repairing any damage each year. Here are some tips from The Foam Factory to help you keep patio furniture clean and maintained all year long.
Patio furniture should be properly stored during the winter months. Keep all pieces inside of a storage shed or garage where they will be protected from the elements. When storage space is limited, special coverings can offer a shield against the damaging effects of the weather when furniture is left outside. This includes all outdoor furniture cushions which can also be damaged by small animals.
Each spring the outdoor furniture needs cleaned. Metal and plastic pieces can be simply wiped down with a damp cloth to remove any dust or debris. Wicker furniture can be wiped down with a solution of ¼ cup dish soap and two cups of water. A garden hose can be used to rinse the soapy water off. One cup of vinegar can be added to the mixture to remove mildew. All patio cushions need to be wiped down as well.
While one is cleaning the outdoor furniture they can look for any damage that will need repaired. Loose or missing wrapping on wicker furniture can be replaced with wicker caning that has soaked for 30 minutes to become pliable. Worn cushions can be saved by using outdoor foam replacement as long as the fabric is still in good shape.
